Growing up I always loved the original Star Wars. I would get my dad's old box speakers out and hook them up to the TV so I could get the whole surround sound experience of the theme song and sound effects. I would build a huge bed in the room and do Trilogy Marathons on the weekends. Yes weekends, plural. I went through a phase where I would do this every weekend with my brothers. Lucky for me and my social life I grew out of that obsession. I think the new Episode I, II, and III kind of ruined it for me. I still like the Star Wars story and especially like the original Trilogy.
Sharon and I recently saw the new Star Trek movie. I've never really seen any of the previous Star Trek movies and had seen very few of the TV series so I wasn't sure how I would like it. I was surprised how good it was. I really like it. I decided I should give the old series a chance. With a new born in the house I find sometimes my hands are full and I can't get much productive work done, so I've been watching some of the original series online. ABC has the three original Star Trek seasons available to watch for free. I've been slowly making my way through the first season. I've found Star Trek much more interesting and engaging from a thought/philosophical point of view. The effects and production are obviously of a poorer quality, but I've enjoyed the plots and the thought provoking ideas they present, like how would a man behave if he were to obtain God like powers.I will never be a Trekie or Star Wars fanatic but I think both deserve a lot of credit for being entertaining, even after all the years.

I never really liked the original Star Trek much. I did like The Next Generation a lot though. However, nowadays with shows like Lost which have continuity, I realize that is what Star Trek really lacked.
I'm looking forward to the day when we can have a Star Wars reboot like the recent Star Trek reboot. Over George Lucas's dead body, I'm afraid, so it may be a while.
