Catching up! This polar vortex is making me nostalgic for days when it was humane to be outdoors. Here we go!
Fall kicked off with with some apple picking at Wasem Fruit Farm. Note to self, the Golden Delicious were deeeelicious. We got about 75 lbs of a variety of types and sauced it all.
Wasem donuts are an absolute fall traditional necessity around here.
And it was fun getting to know our neighbors and new friends the Bolingbrokes better.
Pumpkin Carving with the Wittings
Birth is so emotional! This is me heading home after being a doula for a friend for 40 hours in the hospital. In 2 nights, I'm running on about 3 hours of sleep total, and it looked like things were getting close (and complicated,) but my pump was being stupid and I had to go home to nurse Robin. This is me right after giving a tear filled plea to the doctor in the hallway, about giving the couple their best shot at avoiding a c-section. After two days of labor, she had the baby about an hour after I got home! I was ecstatic, and obviously bummed I didn't stick around. But seriously. I had been telling myself for about 20 hours, that I wouldn't need to pump again and the baby would come. So my body really had had all it could handle unfortunately. Good news is, baby and mom are healthy and happy!
Cute little Clara. Esther's dressed like a dinosaur because it's Halloween.
Costumes this year were last minute and super makeshift, but it seemed to work out all right.
Robin as a Mandrake
Eliot as Ron Weasley
Ira as Harry Potter
Esther wasn't interested in being Hermione or Ginny. She was set on being a dragon.
We had the pleasure of having a visit from the Thatchers who were passing by. It happened to be Nate's b-day, so it was Cheesecake with dino candles to celebrate. We miss them!
Playing with our new Apple Peeler Corer Slicer
Esther's field trip to Wasem.
This is my friend Jessica who watched the kids when I was recovering from my umbilical hernia surgery one morning. It hurt for me to hold Robin. In fact it hurt to do anything. I grossly underestimated what recovery would look like. Glad it's over and so grateful for the help we had from friends.
This was the boys' first time on soccer teams!
Falling asleep under her pony.
Robin started on solids! This is him feeding himself chunks of oatmeal.
Birth Classes are going well. This was reunion night with all the new additions from the alum...
...and the current class.
As I write this, everyone's had their baby's, and I had the pleasure to doula for two of them.
DIY Family photo shoot
Licorice poses were conceived by the kids. ;)
Cobblestone Farm
I love that Ira looks like a little modern dancer here.
Eliot lost his two front teeth just in time to ask for them for Christmas.
Robin chilling at the Dentist office.
Still at the dentist, in complete wonder at his first view of falling snow.
In November Eliot and I started playing the cello! I started out by renting one to see if I could fit it into my life. It's been a dream since high school, and since we have an amazing teacher/friend who moved into the area, I'm going to make it work. Eliot was completely infatuated and couldn't take his hands off my cello, so we found one on craigslist for a good price and took the plunge.
Hanging out, playing and singing Christmas songs with our friends the Barneys.
Thanksgiving party at the preschool
Thanksgiving at our place with a dance party. We had the Webbs and Barneys over, then the Lehmann's for dessert.
Report card ice cream celebration!
Esther with her friends Rhett and Jacob walking to the car after Joyschool. We joined a little mom-rotation group twice a week.
Anthony's office decorating contest.
Graham Cracker houses with the Herrick-Zilkas!
Daddy kid date at Charlie Brown's Christmas
Ira took this shot on the way to a Nativity at St. Francis.
II went a little board with the treats this year: Gingerbread, PB fudge, Twixters, Oreo Truffles, Cookie Dough trufflies, Coconut macaroons, Vanilla meltaways. I'd do them all again! Except maybe the twixters, they were a lot of work.
Makeshift nativity with church friends. Eliot was the Star.
Robin was baby Jesus when the other baby needed her mom.
Operation Christmas tree.
James and Pam Quiles came over for our Christmas eve Shepherd's Dinner. I was at a birth all that day, but was able to make it home just before they left. The birth was wonderful and tragic. Only one of the twins survived.
Christmas!!!
Nail polish she's been asking for.
Mother of Dragons. Apparently this is a Game of Thrones thing, but we all really know, it was a Quinn Family thing first.
Last present clue...lead to the basement...where Dad's pvc pipe blanket fort making kit was set up. I had our newest family photo sitting inside to unwrap.
Ira showing off his new magic tricks to some friends we were babysitting.
This year we celebrated New Year's with Egypt's Time Zone!...and in Ancient Egyptian style.
We look like we could win an "akward family photo" contest.
We ended the party by dancing to Walk Like an Egyptian, which was perfect.
Ira enjoyed the eyeliner and costumes way more than I ever could have guessed.
Everyone is generally doing great! I've been trying to simplify life a bit to make time for cello and just breathing. I took a break from birth classes from mid-November and am starting again in March. I wanted to see what it would be like to take more time to doula.
Anthony's enjoying his job with Proquest, and the kids are doing great.
